FOLLOW PROGRESS OF THE PMU RESCUES!!

What Are PMU Rescues? In case you don't know what PMU is all about, Premarin, a drug for menopausal women,is named after its main ingredient, the urine of pregnant mares—hence the name PREgnant MARes’ urINe. (PMU) In order to obtain enough urine for the production of Premarin and like drugs, thousands of mares are continually bred in both Canada and the United States. The outcome of that is the production of foals which usually go to feedlots to eventually be sent to slaughter. These are the babies that organizations like the PMU Foal Adoption Network are trying to find adoptive homes for. Please visit their website at www.pmufoaladoption.org. Another great organization can be found at www.heavenlymeadows.org where Melissa works very hard to find homes for the babies.

Sister Michelle and husband Dwight started the ball rolling by adopting three yearlings, Missy, Cheval and Homer T.

LOOKS LIKE MISSY IS THE BOSS OF THIS CREW!!
AND HOMER-T BETTER FIGURE THAT OUT!!

Then Lisa adopted Malachi, a seven year old shire gelding. He was used as a stud until just before he left his home country of Canada. Now he is being trained to ride and drive and has found his forever home.

Then Bonnie adopted her 3 babies, Isis, Takoda and Athena.  They were 5 months old at the time but are now fully grown and almost ready to train to ride.

Bonnie followed this with the rescue of Mariah, a pregnant mare who was heading for slaughter. Her owner's PMU contract had been cancelled and he needed to decrease his herd. Mariah then gave birth to Comet on May 18, 2005.

Isis, a percheron filly, Takoda, a registered paint filly and Athena, a quarterhorse paint filly, are all growing like weeds. They are all working hard on their ground manners and doing well!

Isis, Takoda, Athena - Not babies anymore!
